Womens football takes a step in the right direction

Newly formed Ide Hill & Sundridge FC women’s football team have taken huge steps in their first three months since starting, closing September with their first ever South East Counties Women’s Football League (SECWFL) win over fellow newcomers Tunbridge Wells Foresters FC Development.

Ide Hill & Sundridge’s manager, and our very own Features Editor, Lorraine Rowley, commented on the girls journey to date: “Ide Hill and Sundridge Womens FC was formed in late July of this year. We only had a few weeks of training, and with the majority of our players having never played football before, it was a tough ask to go straight into a league. But we took our place in Division 2 West of the SECWFL and we haven’t looked back.”

“We suffered some heavy defeats at the start of the season, but we learnt from that and were absolutely delighted to get our first win in September against Tunbridge Wells Foresters. I am extremely proud of not only the performances my team put out on the pitch, but also the attitude the girls bring to the training ground and to matches, the atmosphere we have built already is incredible.”

Elsewhere, Sevenoaks Town Women, who play in a division above Ide Hill, have won three of their opening four matches.
