Who will be the first King and Queen of the ‘Hill’?

Lots of local athletes are in training for the 47th race edition of the 7Oaks Triathlon to be held from the Sevenoaks Leisure Centre on Sunday April 19th. The event comprises a 400m swim, an undulating cycle of 25km finishing with a 5km run through Knole Park. The event continues to be popular with athletes from across Kent and South London and is almost sold out 6 weeks before race day.

There are several new features this year including the challenge to be the fastest up Shipbourne Hill and earn the title of Queen or King of the ‘Hill’. Those of you who have cycled this climb know that the gradient rises up quickly from the chaser and gets steepest past the bend to Plaxtol and ends, with relief, as the cyclist turns left toward The Plough at Ivy Hatch. The Bike Warehouse – a favourite local shop for the growing number of cyclists – recreational and commuting – have kindly sponsored the prizes.

There will be prizes for the fastest overall female and male in the triathlon – and in each age group, prizes for the hill climb and spot prizes. Free professional photos will be available to download for all participants. This will be the 5th year that the race is fundraising for ellenor – the only charity in Kent that provides hospice care and support to families facing terminal illness for people of all ages.
