West Kingsdown held their fifth and final show of the year at their annual event, Christmas Cracker 3, at the Brands Hatch Mercure Hotel in early December. A host of professional boxers past and present were in attendance.
Ten of their boxers were matched, three of which were skills contests with the club producing a fantastic six out of seven wins!
First up was young Billy Hilton in a great contest against his friend Tom Clayden (from Nemesis). Next was Zak Attard v Joe Croxon (Sporting Ring), in a tit for tat three-rounder, with both boys showing great promise. The final skills bout was Bobby Holt v Joe Clearly (Belvedere), in a more tactical affair with both boys impressing their coaches.
George Foy got his West Kingsdown career off to a fantastic start against Sammy Wood (Minster GG). However, a great last round by Wood proved the difference on the night with the away boxer taking the decision.
Louis Driver having his first bout got off to winning ways with a third-round stoppage against a game Brandon Lewis (Hornets).
Max Shephard and Jimmy Sheridan (Repton), produced a bout of real quality in an all Southpaw affair. Shepard grew in confidence with a great last round seeing him home by a unanimous decision and was later awarded boxer of the night by recent World Title Challenger, John Ryder.
Kieran Moran edged out Joel Viera (Repton) on a split decision in a tight contest. The two styles clashed but it was Moran who got the decision.
Another split decision was between Kielan Bannon and Thomas Clark (Surbiton), later voted bout of the night. Bannon’s busy pressure fighting style won him the first two rounds however, Clark’s strong third where he administered a standing eight count, closed the gap but Bannon’s good early work saw him home.
Zak Rogers won a unanimous decision over Owen Marquerio (St Pancras) in a tough three rounder. Zak’s greater accuracy proving decisive.
Sam Woodhead made it six wins in a row for the host club to send the crowd home happy in a very hard bout against Daniel Elliott (Felbridge & East Grinstead). In the only senior bout of the night, these two middle weights slugged it out for three hard rounds and was a contender for bout of the night.
This was the club’s fourth dinner show, all of which have been a sell-out. The coaches were extremely happy with all of their boxers’ performances and are looking forward to holding further shows in 2020!
