Town beaten by three first half minutes in FA Trophy tie

Sevenoaks Town FC were dumped out of the Buildbase FA Trophy on Tuesday night after a heart-warming performance on Saturday gave them a well deserved replay against Isthmian South Central opposition, Aylesbury United.

Sevenoaks took control of the match, as they did on Saturday. A penalty for handball was awarded after just five minutes and it was dispatched with purpose into the bottom corner by Kyle Da Silva.

Again, as in Saturday’s first meeting, Sevenoaks were unable to hold onto their lead, but few would have expected what was to happen next. An Aylesbury onslaught with three goals in three minutes by the Ducks!

David Manu equalised with a well placed lob on 24 minutes, then Ben Seaton beat keeper Patrick Lee on 25 minutes before Anthony Ball added another on 27.

Sevenoaks then pulled themselves back into the match after a number of great chances in the second half. Da Silva popping up on the score sheet once again in the 73rd minute.

That then spurred Town on again to get the equaliser, as Aylesbury had done at the weekend. However it wasn’t to be as United extended their lead as Manu scored another in stoppage time.

With the exception of the three first half minutes, when Aylesbury scored three goals, this was actually a solid performance from Sevenoaks and they should take pride in their reaction as a team in the second half.

Take that sort of mentality into the Ashford United game at home on Saturday, and there will only be one victor in the top of the table clash. Kick off is at 3.00pm at Greatness Park.
