Time to go the extra mile for charity!

‘Run, walk or push against dementia’ returns to the stunning surroundings of Knole Park on Sunday 10 May 2020, giving people the chance take part and raise money for a great local cause.

Five-hundred places are available with the option of 3k, 5k or 10k courses. As the name suggests, participants can either run, walk or push a pram or wheelchair around at a pace that suits them.

This year’s ‘Run, walk or push’ sold out in record time so racers who want to take part should be quick off the mark to secure a spot in next year’s event.

Run, walk or push is being organised by the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community (SADFC), which includes Sevenoaks District Council. Not only is it a fun day out for the whole family, SADFC use the money raised to run dementia-friendly cafes, singing groups, cinema screenings and wellbeing days as well as funding other dementia groups. SADFC helps hundreds of people living with dementia and their families every year.

What’s more, SADFC gained charity status earlier this year so it can generate even more money for local dementia services by qualifying for gift aid on most public donations.

Last year, the event raised £7,318.27, but this year the aim is to do even better as Co-founder of SADFC, Elaine Murray, explains: “We want to make ‘Run, walk or push’ 2020 the best yet and we’ve set ourselves a target of raising even more money from sponsorship. Thanks to the work of our dedicated volunteers, we make the money our residents raise go a long way, providing services that are a lifeline for people living with dementia”.

Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council, Cllr John Edwards-Winser, adds: “It’s always a privilege to be involved with ‘Run, walk or push’. It’s such a brilliant cause that makes a big difference to the lives of our residents not to mention a great day out for everyone who takes part”.
