Three J’s return for Sevenoaks Suns

Judit Fritz, Julia Koppl and Janice Monakana have all committed to Sevenoaks Suns for another year after putting in consistent performances which took the club to an unbeaten season, and an MVP award in the Play-Off Final.

Hungarian forward Judit Fritz is to return to Sevenoaks Suns for a third season after winning back-to-back Championships with the South-East club. Her presence in the side has also coincided with Suns winning the WBBL Play-Off Trophy for a third time.

Fritz said of her return to Suns: “We had a very good season last year and we’ve managed to return the core of that team and have some exciting additions. I’m extremely excited and grateful to Coach Busch and the entire Suns organisation for putting trust in me for the upcoming season and as in prior years the expectations are high, and we’ll be hoping to win as many trophies as we can”.

Austrian forward Julia Koppl is also returning for a third season at Sevenoaks, having been an integral part of the club’s Championship title last year.

Koppl was a rock once again for her side and averaged eight points and six rebounds per game during the 2018-19 campaign.

Koppl commented: “I am thrilled to play another season with the Suns. Even though our last season was successful, we are still aiming to continue growing as a team and take the next step forward. My goal is to play in all three finals this year, which will require more consistency and more hard work as a team”.

Janice Monakana has had a monstrous year at Suns and will continue to build her game with familiar players by her side once again. After finishing the season with an MVP award in the Play-Off Finals, she was then selected to join the GB Basketball Squad as they headed to Belgrade for the EuroBasket Championships.

Monakana said: “I think it will be an interesting season as the WBBL brings in more talent each year, making the league more competitive! So, my focus is to just keep getting better and improving my game, work hard as I am lucky to be playing with some familiar faces again. Continuing to build on last year and having an even better year as there’s always room for improvement”.

Head Coach Len Busch said of the trio: “I am thrilled to have Judit and Julia back for a third season with Suns. Their experience and professionalism help us be consistent week in and week out. Julia gives us an inside presence and Judit stretches the floor with her all-around game.

“Janice had a wonderful finish to her first year with Suns earning MVP in the final. On a per minutes basis, Janice might have been the most productive player in the league last year. We are hoping to see continued growth in Janice as we head into her second year in the league.”
