Sir Michael Fallon MP to officially open the new 3G Football Pitch at Sevenoaks Town FC

Sevenoaks Town Council and Sevenoaks Town Football Club are delighted to announce that the official opening of the new 3G Football Pitch will be officially opened on Saturday 9th September 2017 at 12.30pm with Sir Michael Fallon MP, as the Guest of Honour.

The provision of the new 3G pitch has been one of the recommendations of the Sevenoaks Sports Strategy. A strategy which was created by Sevenoaks Town Council in consultation with over forty local sports clubs.

The new floodlit 3G pitch will be used extensively by Sevenoaks Town FC who run 60 teams for players as young as five up to veterans. The club will use the pitch all-year round to host matches and for training sessions. The new facility will pave the way for Sevenoaks Town FC to continue growing and widen their provision of football – including a ladies team and walking football. The club is on course to grow to 70 teams over the next four years.

In addition to the club’s own use, local primary schools will be given the chance to use the pitch free of charge during the day for sports and activities.

Cllr Richard Parry said “We are delighted that the hard work in implementing the Sevenoaks Sports Strategy and Sevenoaks Fund has ‘paid off’. Resulting in the provision of such an excellent sporting facility for Sevenoaks. We wish Sevenoaks Town Football Club every future success and that the new pitch will assist with this in enabling more training time not disturbed by weather conditions.”

Paul Lansdale, Sevenoaks Town FC Chairman, said: “We are delighted with our new facility which has been made possible by the tremendous support of Sevenoaks Town Council both financially and throughout the planning stages. With over 1000 players actively enjoying football on a weekly basis run by our 225 volunteers, this facility ensures we can continue to provide football for all levels while securing the future of our club which has grown from 16 teams to 60 teams over the last 10 years.

The installation of the 3G pitch is just the first phase in Sevenoaks Town FC’s development plans, which include building a fit-for-purpose clubhouse for the club and local community by 2020.

The existing clubhouse and car park were designed for a club running a handful of teams and the demands on this facility are so much greater now. The ambition is for Greatness Park to become a sporting and recreational hub within the Sevenoaks District”.

Angela Haymonds from Cory Environmental Trust Britain said: “The CETB Trustees are delighted to have been able to contribute funding to this project, which will bring so many benefits to the local community, and provide a fantastic new facility for all football enthusiasts to use and enjoy.”
