Sevenoaks Waterpolo player steps up for the South-East

Fifteen year old Sevenoaks Sharks Waterpolo player, Allegra Cuomo, was part of the South East region team playing in the Inter-Regional waterpolo girls U16 tournament in Walsall in December.

What Allegra most likes about the sport is the intensity of the matches: typically there are two or four 5-7 minute halves/quarters which means that it is constantly exciting and challenging. She says: “It is a real team sport as you really need to rely on your teammates because you are moving so rapidly up and down the pool. It is impossible to plan every move so you need to be sure your team mates will cover a gap or call clearly if they see who you can pass to.”

Allegra trains both with the Sevenoaks Sharks and the South East squad in Worthing and said the following about representing the South East Region in this competition: “Playing in really high-intensity matches with great players against tough opposition is fun and exciting. Unsurprisingly we’ve not had much training together as a South East squad over the last year so it was really rewarding to see how we got better and better as a team as the tournament progressed. We are really lucky to have a great group of coaches who pushed me hard but in a positive way”
