Sevenoaks’ Purple Army power into England Hockey quarter finals!

Sevenoaks Hockey Club U18 Girls and U16A boys both qualified for the quarterfinals of England Hockey’s championships in style with the girls beating Epsom 6-3 and the boys beating Norwich City 5-2 on a blisteringly hot Sunday.

A brilliant team performance from the girls taking an early lead in the match with a goal from T Fox.  Epsom fought back hard but a goal from R Vinnicombe ensured they were 2-1 ahead at half-time. In the second half J Olerenshaw scored a hat-trick with three superbly taken shots and R Macdonald-Gay was finally rewarded with a goal after a stand out game in mid field. Epsom never gave up and also scored twice on the break. The whole squad worked so hard for each other throughout the match and should be very proud of their performance.

The girls now face Teddington in the quarter final next weekend.

An equally fabulous team performance from the boys saw Sevenoaks lead 1-0 at half time through a goal from M Mangat.

Sevenoaks came racing out of the blocks after half-time finding themselves 4-0 to the good through goals from C Brooks and S Ryder (2).

Norwich rallied to score two quick goals putting the pressure on.  The Purple Army sealed their win with a 5th and final goal from S Ryder after Norwich had pulled their goalkeeper in favour of 11 outfield players searching for much needed goals.

A fine end to a tremendous all round team performance.  The team will play Old Loughtonians in next week’s quarterfinals.
