Sevenoaks gain momentum in Premiership battles

Sevenoaks Powerchair Football Club played poorly in their opening two fixtures in the latest round of matches in the Muscular Dystrophy UK Premiership at Nottingham. A 5-0 loss to Northern Thunder and a 2-0 loss to St George’s Knights. However the team regrouped and in a closely fought game, came away with a point after a 0-0 draw with local rivals Brighton.

Buoyed by an improved performance the team didn’t shy away from current league champions West Bromwich Albion in their Sunday morning fixture and despite a 4-1 loss there were moments of great passing play. Sevenoaks scored the only goal in the second half, which demonstrated their resilience.

Their final game was against struggling Middlesbrough in what was labelled a six-pointer. Sevenoaks dominated throughout and secured a 3-0 victory. Myles Miller, Kyle Alexander and a first club goal for Kai Shah secured a valuable three points.

Shaye Reid-Watson, Sevenoaks’ goalkeeper shared his thoughts on the weekends action: “We were frustrated after Saturday’s games but thankfully on Sunday we really picked up and showed that we can play football to a high standard – we’re pleased, but there is so much more that we’re capable of.”
