Sempai Matt retains his National Kata title

Sempai Matt and student Louis, who are members of Sevenoaks Karate Club, enjoyed tournament success at the KJK National Championships on Saturday.

There were met by competitors from across England, Scotland and Wales, all competing on the day in Kata, Kumite and Kickboxing with high standards throughout.

Sempai Matt regained his National Kata title, defeating Sempai Mark from the Ashford Club in the final.

Louis fought hard, but came up against some tough opponents and narrowly lost out on getting a medal in the Kumite, gaining a 4th place. In the Kata, Louis managed to come away with 2nd place which was well deserved.

KJK Englands Chief Instructor, Shihan John Wilson commented: “This year saw some of the most technical and high level fighting for a number of years. All students that took part should be proud of themselves”.

Matt’s brother, Ashley, who trains in Hailsham, also managed to gain a 1st place in the Senior High Grade Kata marking a great achievement for the family!
