New Beacon six-a-side team are national finalists

Congratulations to the New Beacon first VI football team who recently successfully qualified for the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) national six-a-side finals to be held at King’s College, Taunton, on Sunday 5 November.

The squad – Henry (capt.), Taffy (v.capt.), Seif, James, Ben, Ollie, Alex, Zach won 6 matches, lost 2 and drew 1. They were utterly magnificent in the quarter final winning 4-1. In the semis against St. Christopher’s there was still no score after golden goal extra time. In the penalty shootout, New Beacon scored all their penalties with Zach saving the sixth which meant they were in the final with Westbrook Hay School who were deserved winners 3-0.

However, this takes nothing away from the gutsy New Beacon team who played nine matches with determination, heart and true New Beacon spirit. To finish second out of 27 teams was a fantastic achievement and one which was fully deserved. Good luck to the New Beacon boys in the national finals day in November.

This team are on a winning streak as they also recently won the John Norman Cup 6-a-side football competition for IAPS schools which was hosted by The New Beacon School. This was played against Dulwich Prep Cranbrook, Sevenoaks Prep, Marlborough House, St Michael’s, Hazelwood, Solefields, Yardley Court, Hilden Grange and St Ronan’s and it was a great competition.
