Knole Park Men’s 1st team lose first match of the season

HC Knole Park’s Men’s 1st team travelled to Sutton Valence on Saturday looking to continuing their winning start to the season. Sutton Valence were however also looking to continue their unbeaten start. It was Sutton Valence who took the lead with two open play goals. A penalty corner by Duncan Parnis just before half-time did however half the deficit at the break. 2-1 to Sutton Valence.

The second half was a much improved performance from Knole Park. Dave Smith went close on a number of occasions and the defensive unit of Benedict Cannon, Steve Innes, Matt Hebden and David Gough-Cooper held firm for longer periods. A stunning solo effort from Knole Park’s own half from Duncan Parnis levelled the scoring, only for Sutton Valence to score from the restart. Parnis then levelled the scoring again from a penalty corner to make it 3-3.

As Knole Park pushed on for the win they were hit on the break twice and that all but ended the contest. There was just enough time for Parnis to hit his fourth of the match with a fantastic strike into the top corner before the match ended 5-4 to Sutton Valence.

Next week the team host the University of Kent at home.
