Holmesdale celebrate ladies 20th invitational

With the bowling green virtually flooded due to torrential rain in August, there was doubt The Twentieth Holmesdale Ladies Invitation Triples Competition would take place.

28 teams (84 ladies) in total from Bromley, Petts Wood, Danson Park, Coney Hall, Orpington, Beckenham, West Wickham, New Eltham, Crayford, Ditton, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Westerham, Borough Green and Sevenoaks descended on Holmesdale for this very popular event in the local bowls calendar. Organised by Brenda Bennett for the past twenty years, with a team of Holmesdale helpers, the same faces tend to appear each year with the ladies treating the event as one big happy reunion day.

Nevertheless, the bowling is very competitive with each team playing three sessions of ten ends. At the end of the day, Westerham (Wyn Reynolds, Sally Pearson and Anne Farley) were in 3rd place on 24 points and 33 shots scored, Orpington A (Jill Bird, Sue Hitchcock and Mo Jordan) in 2nd place, also on 24 points but with 36 shots scored. The winners, the Orpington B team of Pat Pillow, Andrea Gallagher and Chris Parums on 26 points, ensured a very successful day for their club.

On this quintessentially summer’s day, the ladies enjoyed a cream tea during their afternoon break and amused themselves with a quiz. There was also a large hamper of fruit, six bottles of wine, and many prizes to be won in the bumper raffle. A good time was had by all!
