Experience and youth combine for Suns

Shooting guard Renee Busch is back at Sevenoaks Suns after agreeing to continue with the reigning WBBL Championship and Play-Off winners for a fourth consecutive season, and 16-year-old Asha Andrews will be joining her, after coming off the bench at the end of last season to great effect.

Busch’s presence on the roster collided with the club taking its first silverware during 2016-17 when it lifted the WBBL Trophy in Glasgow and since that time, Suns have racked up three Play-Off Final victories and two league titles.

Renee said: “I’m really excited and thankful for another season ahead at Sevenoaks. It’s not just convenience/family connection that keeps me coming back to Suns. We’ve built a special culture here and I truly appreciate the people I get to spend every day with. They make me better and I hope to do the same for them.

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be. I can’t wait to be back on court with the team.”

Head Coach and Renee’s father, Len Busch commented: “It is great having Renee back for her 4th season in the WBBL. Having come all the way up through the Suns junior teams and then returning after 4 years at Penn, she embodies everything that’s right with the club. Hard work, professionalism, being a good teammate and working to get better”.

Meanwhile, Andrews took part in only two games during the 2018-19 season, as she makes the transition to the WBBL. However, Head Coach Busch has seen enough to suggest that she will make a big impact this year.

And while others were taking the summer off, Andrews was with the GB Basketball team, coached by both Len and Renee, competing in the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championships in North Macedonia.

Len said: “Asha is a very talented young player who I believe turned a corner this summer. I believe she is ready to step up to the WBBL team and continue her development and also make a contribution”.
