Vine 3rd XI continue to struggle in search of another victory

Sevenoaks Vine 3rd XI travelled to Snodland Community CC. In the past, this fixture has produced close and fiery contests, and with last week’s victory away at Staplehurst, the Vine were full of confidence.

Martin and Akerman strode out to the crease, but it would be Martin who would be returning to the pavilion quickly by failing to trouble the scorers. Similarly, Domine only managed a brief 11 before being bowled by captain Merry. Akerman and Spurling went about rebuilding the innings, and did so with a certain calmness; in particular, Akerman played some luscious trademark cut strokes with both bringing up their fifties. It would be Spurling who would next fall for 56, being the first of four victims for Hewitt. Bezuidenhout, Tudor and Chessell all fell to Hewitt too. The innings concluded at 210-7.

Coleman and Gavin opened the bowling for the 3rd XI, swinging the ball with great control. Gavin would make the early breakthrough taking the wicket of dangerman Flynn for only 9. The off spin of Tudor would later see the back of Watts as he was caught and bowled. In similarity with the Vine innings, captain Merry and Waller set about rebuilding the innings aggressively, with Merry hitting twenty four boundaries in a knock of 122*, whilst Waller hit 50 before succumbing to young Bezuidenhout. However, the damage had been done with Snodland finishing 211-3 with 10 overs to spare.
