Unlucky Sevenoaks Town struck when they are down

Sevenoaks Town FC succumbed to just their second league defeat of the season when they hosted Erith Town FC at the Bourne Stadium on Tuesday night.

Sevenoaks were aiming for their 20th straight undefeated match of the campaign and when Kenny Pogue opened the scoring it was business as usual. However, Pogue was taken off early in the second half with an injury and not long after Erith pressed hard all over the pitch and scored two goals in a matter of minutes, catching Sevenoaks off guard. Sevenoaks couldn’t get themselves back into the match and the finally whistle blew an end to their fantastic run.

The evening was more compounded as news came in that Beckenham Town FC had come from two down at Sheppey United to win the match 4-2.

Double trouble
More news was announced on Thursday that the board at the Southern Counties East Football League awarded title challengers, Beckenham Town FC, three points from their missed game with Rochester United a few weeks ago. The reason given was against Rochester United for failing to fulfil a fixture, therefore Beckenham now go three points clear at the top of the league, however Sevenoaks now have three games in hand.

The ruling in full from the SCEFL:

“8.37 For failing to fulfil the fixture – Rochester United v Beckenham Town – 13th January 2018 without just cause the Board have awarded the game and three points to Beckenham Town. The table will reflect the position as if the match had been played.”
