In their first competitive season, West Kingsdown Boxing Club are taking three boxers through to the National Quarter Finals of the School Boy Championships.
Xavier Claudel and Roger Hilton got through the Southern Counties Association Championships via walkovers, however it was George Welsh who took the headlines with a convincing points win over Luke Beaver (Oakley BC) at the Merlin’s Nightclub in Sheerness.
Welsh was in tremendous form in only his third bout against the vastly more experienced boxer. George boxed an intelligent fight with his controlled aggression and in the end his opponent received a public warning for hanging on due to Welsh’s unrelenting pressure.
Head Coach, Mickey Bowden, was full of praise for Welsh and also has high hopes for Claudel and Hilton in the National Quarter Finals, which take place on Saturday 12th May in Southhampton.
