Sevenoaks Town FC were knocked out of the FA Vase on December 2nd by Thatcham Town FC, a week after losing 1-0 to Tunbridge Wells FC in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy Cup.
The match, held at Waterside Park near Reading, was the highest ever competitive fixture in Sevenoaks’ long history, however the visitors finally succumbed and lost 3-1.
Sevenoaks manager Micky Collins said after the match on Twitter: “That was my last ever game in the vase and we didn’t show up, so disappointed”.
He continued on Sunday morning, saying “Waking up today after a disappointing result yesterday is always rubbish [sic], as every manager knows, but my spirits have been lifted by some fantastic results from our youth section today.
Whilst Sevenoaks’ cup runs have been keeping them busy, it has been a great opportunity for their opponents in the league to get back on top. That has not happened though, as both Croydon FC and Corinthian FC have both stuttered, leaving Collins’ black and blue army still top of the league and with five games in-hand over their nearest challengers.
So the league is now Sevenoaks’ number one priority and they will need to get back to winning ways quickly if they are to run away with the championship.
They face an away match at bottom of the table Hollands & Blair on December 9th, before returning home to the Bourne Stadium for Premier fixtures against Lordswood and Bearsted just before Christmas.
Sevenoaks shouldn’t have any problems completing their remaining fixtures, even if they do have 25 league matches left to play, since their home pitch can now be used in all weather conditions, should the winter turn cold and give us all a dumping of the white stuff.
