Sevenoaks suffer huge defeat away at Holcombe

Mens Hockey League Premier Division: Holcombe 6 Sevenoaks 0

It was a bad day at the office for Sevenoaks on Saturday away to Holcombe. An early goal in the third minute of the game knocked the wind out of Sevenoaks and they struggled to recover from the early set back. They looked to have steadied the ship with a more solid looking ten minute period, but a nightmare four minute spell between 14 and 17 minutes put the game to bed before the game was even a quarter of the way through.

Holcombe added 3 goals in those 4 first half minutes to make the score 4-0 and there was no way back for Oaks. Oaks threatened to pull a goal back with an Ed Matts reverse stick effort being palmed away by the keeper and an Andrew Ross penalty corner was well charged down by the runner, as the sides went into the break with Holcombe enjoying a 4-0 lead.

Holcombe started the second half as strongly as they started the first, adding a 5th and 6th goal to their tally in the 37th and 41st minutes. It would have been easy to truly capitulate from there with half an hour still to play, but credit to the Sevenoaks team as they dug in and probably looked the side more likely to score from there on in, but for all their possession and territory they couldn’t find a way past the resolute Holcombe defence, and the game ended with the home side winning 6-0.

Oaks will be looking for a significantly improved performance as they play their first game at home next Sunday.
