Sevenoaks Sports’ November issue is out this week!

This month we take a look at the next generation and the immense success the local area has been generating for young people.

“Sevenoaks is fast becoming an academy in its own right!” was something that Edward Oatley MBE told me when I first met him back in August. And he’s right!

The wealth of sports in the Sevenoaks area is one that we should all be very proud of, we have some fantastic facilities right on our doorsteps and should not forget that these are for all people, not just the privileged.

We caught up with Edward to discuss the Sevenoaks Sports Association, of which he has been chair for over 20 years, read his piece in this month’s issue.

From Tennis to Swimming and Football to Rugby, the number of children taking part in sport in the area has risen dramatically as we report in a Schools Special. Our cover story this month reports on the Knole Academy U13 Girls handball team who entered their first competition in this sport back in January, however by the summer they were runners-up in the National Championships, read their full story in this month’s issue.

We also have articles from a number of schools on their recent success stories and what they are doing for children’s sport in general including a couple of celebrity hosts at a Sports Awards dinner at the Trinity School.

We welcome Chris Wharton and his team at The Better Body Group, who discuss the importance of children’s fitness and exercise in their new column.

Also this month we pay a visit to the Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Centre on Hollybush Lane, Brazilian ju-jitsu highlights itself as an alternative sport and way of keeping fit, plus our nutritional round-up and healthy recipes from the team at The Health Boost.

We also introduce our new local tables service, bringing all the sports league tables together. This month, we have highlighted Sevenoaks Town FC’s Powerchair Football Team who play in the Muscular Dystrophy UK Championship and the Sevenoaks Suns who play in the Women’s British Basketball National Championship. Both of whom are doing extremely well.

Finally, and now that the clocks have gone back, it appears that we only have darker days to look forward to as the winter grabs hold, but with the clubs in the area now making it so easy for you to take part, we encourage you all to go out and watch, participate or report on your favourite sport.
