Sevenoaks Sports’ May issue is out this week!

WOW! What a month we’ve had! April was always going to be an exciting one, as several competitions ended, and most notably for local sports followers, those of the Southern Counties East Football League and the Women’s British Basketball League.

Sevenoaks Town and Sevenoaks Suns kept us on tenterhooks throughout the month though, as they both powered their way to their first league titles in their respective sports.

The ‘History Makers’ followed in

the footsteps of Tom Bosworth, last month’s cover story, and newly crowned silver medalist of the Commonwealth Games. Chantelle Pressley also picked up a silver medal as she competed with Team England in the Basketball.

All this local success surely had to rub off at some point, and Sevenoaks Hockey Club didn’t disappoint us, as they came back from the playoffs clinching national premier league status for another season.

Sevenoaks Rugby Club also had reasons to celebrate as their seniors and juniors enjoyed an exceptional season including four Kent Cups for the Acorns, Under 16’s and Under 13’s Boys; Kent and Regional Cups for the Under 15’s Girls, and League Victory for the 4th XV.

In other news, but by no means of lesser importance, Walthamstow Hall became National Badminton Champions, Knockholt Bowling Club won the Bromley Outdoor In

door League and West Kingsdown Boxing Club are taking three boxers through to the National Quarter Finals of the School Boy Championships.

This month we report on all title winning teams, plus a photo diary of Lizzy Yarnold’s golden bus tour. Cricket is underway on the Vine and Derek Hodge highlights the importance of looking after your local football clubs.

We also take the time to introduce you to Robin Marchant, a local sporting hero who is holding a Fun Dog Show in Sevenoaks Weald to raise awareness for Canine Partners, a charity that is very close to him.

Plus, the Health Boost give us two new nutritional recipes to get you ready for the summer, and ask the question: Is a gluten free diet healthier? You’ve also still got time to enter our fabulous VIP competition from our friends at Run or Dye, entries close on May 18.

As always, please do keep sending us your feedback and sporting stories. The local community needs to hear what is going on in the district, so please keep up the good work.

You can now view the digital edition online here.

Kind regards,

Steve Rowley, Publishing Editor
