Sevenoaks Rugby Under 14s win the Kent Cup

Sevenoaks Rugby Club Under 14s put in a strong performance to beat Aylesford Bulls RFC 19-7 in the Kent Cup Final at Ashford on Sunday.

The match started at a frenetic pace and although both sides struggled to establish any rhythm, Oaks showed better shape and were rewarded with two first half converted tries.

The first resulted from a midfield break that put the Oaks right wing in and the second came from a line break following a well worked backs move to release the left wing, with his team mate in support to collect a wonderful lofted one handed offload to go in under the posts. Sevenoaks took a 14-0 lead into the half time break.

Aylesford stuck at it and came out strongly for the second half. Some unforced errors by Oaks saw the Bulls set up camp on Sevenoaks’ try line. Twice Bulls forged their way over the whitewash and twice they were held up by outstanding Oaks defensive work. Finally the pressure was relieved by a penalty to Oaks that enabled the navy and golds to clear their lines and move the ball up the pitch for the third try that secured the match.

Bulls never stopped playing and were rewarded with a final flourish, scoring from the restart but time by that stage time had run down and Oaks were crowned deserved Kent Champions.
