Otford and Ide Hill put on superb displays of football

Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield: Otford United 6 Hawkinge Town 2
Otford United welcomed Hawkinge Town for the second time this season following their 3-3 draw in the league. This time it was in the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield.

Hawkinge opened the scoring on 10 minutes when Otford gave away a penalty and they made no mistake from the spot. Despite the set back it took Otford just two minutes to equalise when Dave Finnigan headed in and five minutes later they took the lead when Andy Pierce headed well into the Hawkinge net.

The second half saw Otford take control. Levi Gold scored an individual goal beating the Hawkinge defence to make it 3-1 and was also there four minutes later to tap in. Gold then completed his hatrick after some good build-up play. A lapse of concentration let Hawkinge score their second, albeit a great strike from the Hawkinge forward giving Justin Lee no chance. The final goal of the match was headed home superbly by youngster Harry Hudson, final score, 6-2 to Otford.

Kent County League Division One West: Club Langley 0 Ide Hill 1
George Kensell fired in a second half winner to lead Ide Hill to victory in this early season top of the table clash in Division One West.

Ide Hill started brightly, as they do when at their best, pressing hard and letting Langley know they were in a game, with Matt Bunn and George Kensell making early positive inroads and setting the tone for the aggressive forward play which would lead Ide Hill to victory.

The visitors should have had the lead after 30 minutes, a Ben Holder inswinging corner was met in the six-yard box by Craig Jackson who glanced a header off the turf in to the roof of the net, which the official failed to spot, much to the ire of the whole Ide Hill squad.

Luckily, they weren’t outdone by the referee though, taking matters in to their own hands and getting the winner early in the second half. Foraging play by Jackson on the edge of the box resulted in the ball being shuffled out to the onrushing Kensell 15 yards out on the right, who duly lashed the ball in to the nearside top corner for his first of the season and what would turn out to be the winner.

Ide Hill controlled the remainder of the game with a mature, powerful performance, recording their first clean sheet of the season, which was a testament to the dominance of the back six, and paves the way for a possible title charge.
