Lordswood on the Vine
The Sevenoaks Vine first team welcomed Lordswood to the Vine on Saturday. The home side lost the toss and were put into bat. Starting well, the hosts were 54-1 before Evert Bekker fell for 24. His opening partner, club stalwart John Bowden, was to prove the Vine’s best batsman, falling unfortunately for 69 off 85 balls.
The Vine struggled to capitalise on the good start however and only Michael Barber (41) and captain Oliver Durell (33) making significant contributions. They finished their 50 overs on 222-9, the wickets shared amongst the bowers, with two a-piece for Palash Joshi, Taylor Chandler and Brody Koelewyn.
The Lordswood chase got off to a blistering start, making it to 107 before Linden Lockhart was bowled by Karl Pearson for 60. Opening partner Laraman fell for 57 soon after but by then the back of the chase was broken. The Vine managed to remove Kent pro Sean Dickson for 39 but it was too little too late as Lordswood got to the total for the loss of 5 wickets with 3.3 overs to spare. Pick of the Vine bowlers was overseas Luke Schlemmer with 2-41 off 9 overs.
The Vine travel to Bexley for their next match in the Kent Premier League, hoping to return to winning ways against last seasons runners-up.
A trip to Lordwood – part 1
2’s visited newly promoted Lordswood in search of their first league victory of the season.
After Lordswood put Vine in the field in what seemed a good day to bat, White (1-28) made an early break through bowling the opener in the second over. After a couple overs rebuilding by the Lordswood batsman, Procter (1-34) sent the off-stump cartwheeling back out the ground. The Vine pressure was relentless with Thompson continuing his recent form taking 3-19; backed by captain Robinson (2-25) who took an athletic one handed catch off his own bowling. With the Vine through the middle order, Reid Dick and young Gavin finished the tail off with the latter picking up 3-8 on his second team debut. Lordswood were bowled out for 125 with momentum in the Vine’s favour.
Thompson and Adams opened the Vine with a solid opening partnership of 45 until Adams (21) departed. Following a short period of instability with the Vine losing Thompson, White and Quinney in quick succession, Anderson batted calmly until smashing the ball to all areas of the ground before departing for a well made 20 on Vine debut. A final strong partnership by Dominee (14*) and Peters (13*) took the Vine over the line finishing 126-5 with plenty of overs to spare.
The Vine turn their attention to Bexley, who we welcome at home next Saturday.

A trip to Lordwood – part 2
On a gorgeous day, the Vine 3s travelled to Lordswood unfortunately decimated by the unavailability of players higher up and the reserve team on international duty sampling the different varieties of Port and playing a bit of cricket so the 10 Vine’s men took on the 11 Lordswood men.
The Vine lost the toss and were inserted on a dull and lifleless pitch the homeside knew how to bowl, holding their lengths. However, that was all they could hold as we lost count of the number of dropped catches. The Vine made a useful 173 for 6 highlights being Sam Harvey’s 75 once he had got used to the wicket and tucked into the change bowling and Mcintosh-Pierce nearly swinging himself off his feet trying to hit the ball out of the ground.
However, the Vine could not hold there lengths and Lordswood got off to a flyer until Tudor and ‘Digger’ McNicholas restored some order. The pair brought the Vine back into the game taking 2 wickets a piece, ably assisted by youngster Ben Harvey who bowled his legspin with great control but needed the assistance of some bounce and pace sadly lacking on this wicket. A costly drop of Sharma (56*) was the crux of the game and Lordswood completed their chase at a crawl with 2 overs to spare.
