Ladies lockout Chelmsford to earn all 3 points

Fresh off the back of a positive indoor season and promising pre-season results, Sevenoaks Ladies 1st team arrived at Chelmsford optimistic they could come away with a win.

The game started as expected, with Oaks piling on the early pressure. A series of simple passes down the left-hand side led to Sophie Crosley winning a corner. This was saved on the line by the body of a defender and Oaks were duly awarded a penalty stroke. Cath Nicholson stepped up and put away a clinical stroke to put Oaks 1-0 up in the early minutes of the game. Another corner was won soon after by captain Katy Warrington, Susie Rowe found the backboard making it 2-0. A superb work rate from the midfield kept the game ticking over in Oaks’ favour. The final goal of the first half was a cracking reverse stick shot by Sami Danckert, leaving the score line 3-0 at the whistle.

Half time talk done, promising passages of play kept appearing, only to fall down at the last hurdle. Oaks then strung a series of neat passes together, with Katy Warrington finding Jess Denniff in the D who drew the goal keeper and passed the ball to Maddie Thompson who swept it into the goal. The final goal came when Jess Denniff tapped in a well-worked short corner routine. In the final minute of the game Chelmsford broke after an Oaks’ short corner and were able to slot the hall in the oaks’ goal.

Sevenoaks host Wimbledon next week who will be looking to exact revenge for their early defeat this season at the hands of the team in purple.
