In April, four members of the Sevenoaks Karate Jutsu Kai club participated in the Sussex Karate Championships. They all competed in kumite (sparring) and kata (forms).
There were over 50 competitors from all over the South East and the Sevenoaks club came away with six trophies between them. This made it one of the most successful competitive outings for the club in recent years.
Khloe, the clubs youngest competitor aged 7, came away with a 3rd place in the kata. Louis, aged 12, did fantastic to become the junior kata champion, and also got a 3rd place in the kumite against some much more experienced fighters.
Club instructor, Sempai Matt, returned to the competition matt after over a year and achieved 2nd place in both the kumite and kata. Assistant instructor Sempai Harry was 3rd place in the senior mens kumite, a category which included experienced fighters who have fought internationally.
The club hopes to continue this success in the upcoming national tournament which takes place in June. The club trains every Monday at the Sennocke centre from 6.45pm. Beginners of all ages are welcome.
