Johnson-Cole enjoys a week to remember

Bostik League South East Division: Sevenoaks Town 2 Hythe Town 0

New signing William Johnson-Cole has enjoyed his first full week at Sevenoaks Town Football Club as he helped to banish the clubs early season demons.

Sevenoaks waltzed to two wins and a draw in seven-days as their Bostik League campaign got back on track. After defeating VCD Athletic last weekend, Sevenoaks enjoyed a trip to the coast in midweek with a well-deserved point at Whitstable Town where Johnson-Cole got off the mark with an equaliser in the 90th minute.

Saturday saw high-flying Hythe Town visit Greatness Park and it wasn’t long before Sevenoaks showed their intentions as they tackled, passed and moved their way around the pitch in style.

However, it wasn’t until the second half that the home side got any rewards for their efforts. Johnson-Cole came off the bench in his home debut to score and set one up in a man of the match winning performance, as he helped Sevenoaks to a 2-0 win.

After some exceptional build-up work by Kenny Pogue, he crossed for Johnson-Cole to put Sevenoaks 1-0 up. The second goal saw Frankie Sawyer sneak in at the near post and Sevenoaks never looked back.

Manager Micky Collins commented after the match: “It was a good performance today, they are a good side with some great players. I knew that if we could nullify the game
William [Johnson-Cole] is a good player, he scored the other night, scored one today and set one up, he is a threat and something that we haven’t had.”

Sevenoaks Sports’ Man of the Match winner, Johnson-Cole, said after the match: “Coming off the bench and having to catch up with the speed of the game, it was just perfect for me with 13 minutes left of the first half.

“I always try to make a positive impact when I come on and I managed to get ahead of their left-back and knock it in.”

• Sevenoaks face Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday (October 2nd) evening in the Kent Senior Cup Second Round. The match kicks off at 7.30pm at Greatness Park.
