Gymnastics academy is across the Spectrum

Spectrum Gymnastics Academy (SGA) have just entered their second year after opening at the Valence School in Westerham in September 2016.

The academy started off with a mere 17 gymnasts in the hall of Churchill Primary School and moved to Valence to expand last year, where they now have over 400 gymnasts that attend classes each week aged between 18 months and 15 years.

Over 180 gymnasts took part in their very first Club Championships

On October 15th they held their very first Club Championships with over 180 gymnasts taking part in a Floor and Vault competition. The gymnasts were aged four to 14 years and were assessed for a coloured ribbon level in front of judges and parents over three rounds. The day was also a fundraising event for the club and they managed to raise over £2,500 for new equipment.

Sarah Hills, a teacher at the academy, said: “We aim to provide safe, fun, progressive gymnastics lessons where children can meet new friends for life and learn new skills along the way”.

“We have both Mixed General and Women’s Artistic Squads and a fantastic team of 13 coaches.”

She continued: “We run gymnastics classes at Valence School for children aged three to 14 years and have just recently opened a satellite club at The Eden Centre, Edenbridge to accommodate our huge Pre-School Gymnastics membership. This includes our ‘Spectrum Stars’ Pre-Schoolers aged 18months to four years.“

SGA have already competed in both small, friendly competitions in London’s Neon as well as entering the BG National Development Plan Grades held in Guildford, where gymnast Milly Young (9 yrs) came 8th overall in Regional Club 5 category and was given a place in the regional squad team that year, training alongside hopeful future gymnasts from Kent and the South East regions.
