The hugely popular Ta’Yani Clarke is set to continue her career with Sevenoaks Suns after agreeing an extension which will see her return for a third straight WBBL season. An experienced campaigner in the league and offering plenty of versatility and veteran know-how, Clarke was an integral component in an historical season for the club last term when they scooped their first WBBL Championship title.
Clarke averaged an impressive haul of almost 9 points, 9 rebounds and more than 3 assists per game in what was another influential season.
Suns’ Head Coach, Len Busch stated: “I was really happy when ‘T’ told me that she wanted to come back to us for another season and I am sure the rest of the team will have felt very much the same about it.
“She is a proven winner and someone who helps all of us at Sevenoaks to be better every single day.”
Wildcats
Janice Monakana and Vanessa Da Silva will continue to be team-mates in 2018-19 after the pair agreed a switch from Nottingham Wildcats to Sevenoaks Suns. The duo will be new faces in a Sevenoaks unit which will be looking to continue their recent domination and will be gunning for a third straight WBBL PlayOff title at The O2.
The addition of both players is exciting Head Coach, Len Busch, who has already secured the services of Julia Koppl, Renee Busch and 2017-18 MVP, Cat Carr.
He said: “I’m excited to have Janice join us this year. She was a big part of the England U18 team that I coached in 2012 and 2013.
“I know she struggled with injuries last year at Nottingham, but I know what she is capable of. She is explosive and can drive, shoot and rebound. I think if she manages to stay healthy, she will be an impact player for us.
“Meanwhile Vanessa is a veteran player who has been around for a while with both Brixton Topcats and Nottingham – as well as playing internationally for Portugal. She is a solid defender, good rebounder and I think she can fill a role in our programme and make us better.”
Aussie Ace is a Good signing
The Sevenoaks Suns continue to make a statement about their intent to successfully defend their WBBL Championship crown after adding Australian player Jessica Good to their roster.
Now they will also have the services of Good, who has played regularly in her homeland with Adelaide Lightning in the highly-rated WNBL – considered as one of the best leagues in the global women’s game.
“I am looking forward to seeing Jessica play in the WBBL,” said Suns’ Head Coach, Len Busch.
“I think she is going to be a very good player in our league and I hope she will be happy with her first foray away from home. She looks to me to be a well-rounded player, who can play a lot of positions and that will benefit us a lot.”
As well as playing with Adelaide, the forward has also stepped out with Norwood Flames in the Australian State League, where she lines up alongside Oaklands Wolves star Meg Pritchard.
Good has racked up a massive season double-double of late, managing to harvest a superb 15 points and 11 boards per game.
