Football is up and running with a mixed start

As some teams prepare for their first weekend of matches, others have already got their pulses racing including some very significant wins.

Sevenoaks Town FC have got off to a great start both in the league and the Cup. Starting the season as early as August 5th with a home win in the FA Cup against Broadbridge Heath, they have taken that form and won three out of the opening four matches in the Southern Counties East Football League.

They have also won a tricky FA Cup tie away at Cray Wanderers to set up a First qualifying round tie away at Crowborough Athletic on Saturday 2nd September.

Tonbridge Angels meanwhile started off well with two wins in three, however they have appeared to stutter more recently losing their last three games but will try to put that right with an FA Cup First qualifying round tie away at Faversham FC also on September 2nd.

Otford United FC, now playing in the Kent County Premier League, have recorded one draw and a loss in their opening fixtures. Farnborough Old Boys Guild pegged back Otford with a 2-2 draw and Lydd Town Reserves took advantage with a 3-2 win at Otford’s Recreation Ground.

Hildenborough Athletic FC, Chipstead FC and Ide Hill FC all start their Kent County Division One fixtures at the start of September and the latter are due to face each other in a local derby on Saturday 16th September on the 3G pitch at Wrotham School.

The Sevenoaks & District Football League also kicks off at the start of September with a record 55 teams taking part across five divisions. As we reported last month, this is partly due to the Tonbridge League folding at the end of last season. The majority of matches will kick off at 2.00pm until the clocks go back.
