Champions are truely exceptional

At the end of October, Sevenoaks Suns have a stunning record of 31 wins from their last 32 matches in the WBBL Championship and Playoffs, with their only loss coming at home to Leicester Riders in February 2018.

Nothing can stop the Sevenoaks Suns at right now. Not Sheffield Hatters, nor Manchester Mystics, both of which Sevenoaks have brushed aside in recent weeks with continual wins at home and on the road as they look to retain their Championship.

Basketball is a team sport, like many others, but we doubt many other teams have a coach like Len Busch. His personality simply generates positivity, a ten minute conversation with the man will leave you feeling extremely good about yourself and successful, and all he would have done is talk about his players on the court.

Sevenoaks got their Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) Championship campaign off to the best possible start at the end of September with an unproblematic 93-35 victory on the road against league newcomers, Essex Rebels.

The Suns were in a ruthless mood from the start, showing little mercy, and their complete team spirit showed as they shared the points with Renee Busch (16), Jessica Good (14) and Ta’Yani Clark (13) high-scoring on the day.
Next up saw them face Leicester Riders at home and it wasn’t long before they flexed their muscles with a dominant victory, 85-49, over the team they faced in last season’s Playoff final at the O2. Again, team unity was on full display as Cat Carr (21), Janice Monakana (14) and R.Busch (12) took the spread of the points on the day.

The reigning champions remained unstoppable as they then visited Oakland Wolves. There were a couple of sensational displays from Carr who corralled 30 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. and Clark who added a brilliant 12 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals as Sevenoaks walked to a 78-60 win. As if Carr, Clarke and R.Busch weren’t already doing enough, up steps Julia Koppl in their next home fixture against Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters. Koppl led the way with 19 points in victory, with the forward adding 6 rebounds in the 75-68 win.

Judit Fritz then took the lead versus Manchester Mystics at home with a game-high 16 points for Suns, but it was her team-mate Jess Good who starred on the day, posting a double-double of 14 points and 13 boards, adding four assists, four steals and two blocks for an impressive stat line.

Len Busch is a fairly quiet and confident man on the outside, and we’re pretty sure this is the same on the inside as well. Quiet and confident wins matches, and fans too!
