Anyone for Tennis?

Today sees the start of this year’s Wimbledon Championships, and as thousands of fans flock to SW19 over the next two weeks to watch Andy Murray defend his title, the rest of the country will again get Tennis fever. So if you want to get ahead of the pack, contact one of the many Tennis clubs around the area and get playing today.

The wonderful thing about Tennis clubs, and it really does separate them from other sports clubs, is that all of them are accepting of any age and gender. All you need is the want to play Tennis. Below are six clubs in and around the area that range from personal training through to public court hire.

#1: Hollybush Tennis Centre

A community tennis facility in the heart of Sevenoaks. On site facilities include six hard tennis courts with one floodlit court, all of which are available for hire to the general public. Contact the booking office on 01959 523377.

#2: Chipstead Place Lawn Tennis Club

A friendly club in the heart of Chipstead that welcomes players of all ages and abilities, from beginners to the more competitive player. Contact Ian Hooper, the membership secretary, via www.cpltc.co.uk

#3: Tonbridge Lawn Tennis Club

A local club which plays at the Hugh Christie Technology College in Tonbridge where they have six macadam courts, all of which are floodlit. Try them out on one of their Sunday morning or Friday evening club sessions. Contact Lynn Slater, the membership secretary, on 01732 359040.

#4: Sweet Sports

A professional tennis and personal training service based in Otford. Their aim is to provide tennis coaching for all standards of play to satisfy and push players to their full potential. Tennis coaching is offered to adults and children on an individual basis and a group programme. Contact Charlie Sweet on 07786 166009.

#5: Otford Tennis Club

Situated in the heart of Otford, they are a relaxed and friendly club for all levels of players with three all-weather courts, floodlights and a clubhouse. Contact Alison Dykes, the membership secretary, on 01959 522050.

#6: Tonbridge School Centre

A members-only club situated at Tonbridge School. They have three all-year-round courts available for members use. During the Summer months, further courts are erected so there is generally greater availability between April and September. Contact the membership office on 01732 304111.
